2003...
January
Research and consultation with key Indian craft development institutions, government, NGO’s, educational institutions, technical development centres, export promotion council for handicrafts and federation of crafters and trade unions. Interaction with SA institutions involved in the design and craft sector to invite their engagement with India.
February / March
Interaction and selection of Indian designers, assessment of crafters for jewellery and accessory production.
April / May
Finalisation of creative brief to Indian and SA designers and mentorship of the design process for AfriKhadi show at project launch in June.
June
Launch of AfriKhadi in Durban at the Gandhi Development Trust’s Peace and Reconciliation Award Ceremony for President Thabo Mbeki: staged AfriKhadi Fashion Show. Design of the Peace Award that was presented to President Mbeki.
July
Coordinated the visit by Indian officials and crafters to Durban and the Eastern Cape to undertake analyses of potential collaborative project work.
September
A month long product development workshop to design a fashion range for showcase at a Fashion show to launch the project in Delhi during the visit of President Thabo Mbeki. The project affording design intervention, skills development, design intervention and interaction between SA and Indian crafters was coordinated by Ukusa Designs (for SA team), and Dastakari Haat Samiti (for Indian crafter participation), project implementation by NID at their Ahmedabad campus with funding by COHANDS and KVIC.
October
Launch in India: fashion show and exhibition attended by the Vice President of India and Prof Mosala –DG Department of Arts and Culture in South Africa.
November
At the invitation of the Office of the Premier in the Eastern Cape during the launch of the Peoples Contract, AfriKhadi was showcased at a Fashion Show in East London.
December
Launch of AfriKhadi documentary and photographic Exhibition in Delhi with Ela Gandhi in attendance.

January
Meeting with AfriKhadi Project Partners in India to plan schedule of activities.
February
Stakeholders meeting with funders and Indian Consul Officials to discuss proposed AfriKhadi Programme for the forthcoming year.
August / September

Textile Embellishment Skills training Course was undertaken in collaboration with Indian expertise for 30 SMME’s in Durban. The Indian traditional techniques were combined with African design aesthetic. The skills taught include: Patchwork, Traditional Quilting, Beadwork and Embroidery Stitches.

November

Appointed by the High Commission of India, Cape Town to coordinate the “Indian Experience 2004 Gala Fashion Show” showcasing the AfriKhadi Collection along with Khadi collections by Ritu Kumar, Manju and Bobby Grover and Deepika Govind.

AfriKhadi marketing platform was provided within the Indian pavilion at the International Textile and Apparel Faire at the Cape Town International Convention Centre.
2005...
June
AfriKhadi collection was presented at the inaugural show of Durban Fashion Week - garment, jewellery and accessory line was well-received, excellent media coverage locally, nationally and internationally. The collection was featured on SA television programmes Top Billing, Eastern Mosaic, Take 5 and Pasella; internationally on FTV, Good Morning Sydney and NY Dressy; SA magazines Marie Claire; Fairlady and Cosmopolitan, MFF Magazine - Milano Collezioni Donna - Rome; Elle - Paris and Verve - Mumbai. Orders placed were executed by AfriKhadi designers and crafters.
August
SABC2 Women’s Day Special Programming – showcased the AfriKhadi project.
December
Product Design Workshop for Interior Décor and Soft Furnishings was held in collaboration with Dastakari Haat Samiti at Dilli Haat in Delhi. Technical skills transfer and mentorship was provided to crafters of beadwork, glasswork, embroidery, woodcarving, wood inlay, wood block printing, Kari printing and tribal painting.
